Show Notes

Dr. Brian Wheeler, author of “Paradox and the Cosmology of Alan Watts,” introduces us to the powerful potential energy held in the tension between opposite poles. Whether in the dynamics between ourselves and others or our environment, in the competing interests we experience inside ourselves, or the catch-22’s that life seems to forever offer up, paradox is all around us and in many ways fundamental to our experience of the world. Dr. Wheeler offers us 7 unique types of engagement with paradox that enhance our capacities in a complex world. Powerful and profound, paradoxes also invite us deeper, into illumination, awe, and peace.

About Brian Wheeler:
As part of the East-West Psychology PhD program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), Brian recently defended his dissertation on “Paradox and the Cosmology of Alan Watts.” Two chapters of that work were published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology. He holds an MA in Philosophy and Religion from CIIS as well, with a concentration in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness. Brian’s professional background is in writing and editing, as his publishing career stems back 15 years, with a focus mostly in the realm of action sports. Currently, Brian is the Resident Scholar at the Alan Watts Organization, and shares Watts’ passion for exploring and writing about the human condition, psychology, mysticism, religion, and the mysteries of life, consciousness, and existence.
